The Doug
Heron Award is presented annually at the District Board Meeting, to the Unit in
District 1 which had the largest
percentage increase in membership in the previous year. It awards the Unit
which had the greatest success in
new member recruitment (usually a reflection of success in teaching programs)
and in membership retention.
The award was
named after Doug Heron, a long time bridge player and administrator who, due to
poor health has had to curtail his bridge activities. In addition to being
an excellent player who has represented Canada internationally, he has
served on the District and Unit 192 Boards. He has also been a Zone
Director and President of the Canadian Bridge Federation.
