The
NAP is a three-level competition -- local, district and national -- that begins
every summer and ends the next spring. The event is offered for three separate
flights: Your
flight eligibility is
determined by the number of master points you held on June 1st, 2007.
Masterpoints: · Club qualifying games (June 1 to August 31) awards are 50/50 red and black at sectional rating. ·
District
finals award gold for section firsts and overalls. Flight C is 25% gold for
overalls. Other masterpoints in all flights are red. District
winners in each flight will be recognized on the web site.
A
highly prestigious "grass roots" event, the North American Pairs
starts at the club level in June, July and August. Club-level qualifications may
be earned at any club in any unit in any district. A player may qualify as often
as desired and with as many different partners as desired. At the District
Final, both players must have qualified at the club level and must be members of
District 1. A fixed amount prize will be awarded in all flights as
follows:
2a. As District 1 has a Split Final, each year it designates one of the Split- Final winners as the 1st place winner and the winner of the other final as the 2nd place winner. In even numbered years the Eastern Division winner will receive the 1st place subsidies and the Western Division winner will receive the 2nd place subsidies. In odd numbered years, the Western Division winner will receive 1st place subsidies and the Eastern Division winner the 2nd place subsidies.
2b. 3rd place will come from the site that has the larger participation in that flight. 2c.
This is all subject to the requirement that at least 5 tables must have
played in the Flight’s game at the site.
3. Invited
defenders will receive $700 per person. 4. No individual may collect two concurrent prizes The
monetary award will be available at the National Final site. Qualifiers must
play in the national level event until eliminated to receive the award. There
will be no entry fee for the national level of the event. There is no additional funding from the District. Local:
Grassroots
qualifying begins in June, July and August at the club level. Clubs may offer as
many as many qualifying games as they like during these three months and may
stratify the games. Players qualify by finishing in the top half of their
flight/strata (rounded up and including ties) or by having a 50%-or-better game.
Players may compete as often as desired and with any partner. District 1 Final: Players who qualify in these club games are eligible to enter the two-session District 1 Finals, held in October or November in a West site or an East site as determined by the District NAP coordinator. The District Finals offers a separate event for each flight. All players must be qualified in the flight they are entering, and must live in District 1. A qualified player may play with any other qualified player, not necessarily one he or she played with to qualify at the club level. National Final: The top three pairs in each flight at the District Finals advance to the North American Pair National Finals at the ACBL Spring North American Bridge Championships, held in March or early April. The national final format is a two-day event (qualifying and final) in three separate flights. For Flights B and C 1/2 the field will qualify for the 2nd day. For Flight A only 14 tables will qualify for the 2nd day. The top two pairs in each flight at the District Finals will
receive cash awards to cover travel expenses to the NABC. The third-place pair
in each flight is entitled to compete in the NAP National Finals, but will not
receive travel awards. District
1 Conditions of Contest 1.
The District 1 adopts the National Conditions of Contest. 2.
District 1 elects not to have Unit Finals. 3.
Each player must qualify at the club level to be eligible to play at the
District Final. 4.
The District 1 Split Finals are held annually in late October or early
November. The District Finals for all flights are two-sessions and are
played on Saturday at times and locations designated by the the East and West
event coordinators. 5.
Players may not play in both the Eastern and Western finals of a flight. 6.
District 1 requires that Unit NAP Coordinators submit the names of
qualifiers for the NAP final to the NAP District Coordinator. This list must be
received prior to the District Finals in order to confirm that everyone who
plays is eligible. If a player arrives at the finals, has qualified, and
presents a qualifying slip, the player will be allowed to play. 2010
